bassline music uk chart invasion
I woke up this morning to my alarm clock, as usual, pumping out the sounds of Chris Moyles on Radio One. As a dance music producer, some may find that weird, but in my downtime I like to listen to anything from classical music right through to the latest indie.
This morning, however, refreshing waveforms were eminating from my AM/FM radio. For not the first time in recent months, a bassline record (of all things!) was taking centre stage on the biggest breakfast show in the UK.
The first time this happened, of course, was the incredible rise of T2's Heartbroken to the upper eschelons of the UK Top 40 chart. At first, sceptics had written this off as a one off - a Babycakes - a freak that wouldn't be repeated. Now though, tracks like H2O/Platinum's What's It Gonna Be and Delinquent's My Destiny are proving to the rest of the industry that there is more to this bassline stuff than a simple fad.
This is obviously not news to you guys, who have had your finger on the bassline pulse for a long time - it is, though, the first time that the music industry on a wider scale has sat up and taken notice.
I've been hearing about a lot of tunes that have been signed, or are on the verge of being signed, by major labels - so expect to hear more bassline music on the airwaves soon.
